Straight out of a detective novel, the Long Goodbye book nook shows a big-city back alley at night. A staircase climbs between brick walls covered in neon signs, STOP signs and an EXIT arrow. At the bottom of the steps, a detective in a trench coat studies the ground with his magnifying glass while a black cat watches.

This intermediate build takes a few evenings. It's a good gift for someone who reads crime novels or likes the mood of old black-and-white detective movies.

Who is the Long Goodbye book nook made for?

Made for readers of detective novels and fans of old black-and-white movies with a detective in a trench coat. With its bar and its back alley at night, it's meant for adults and older teens.

It's an intermediate build: a beginner can handle it, but the dozens of small signs and posters take some patience. Plan on three to six hours, solo or with a friend.

Its brick, red and neon colors stand out on a shelf of dark books. Both side panels are illustrated, so it looks good from the side too.

In the evening, its lit signs let it double as a night light on a nightstand.

Book nook details

The alley climbs toward a city skyline full of lit windows. Above, a woman stands on a balcony. Metal fire escapes run along the brick fronts. A DANGER sign hangs on a wooden lattice. A MISSING poster is pasted over a wall of graffiti, and the black cat sits on a manhole cover that hides a small drawing. The left side panel is a full facade of its own, The Victo Bar. Through its windows, you can see the counter with its bottles and cocktail glasses. Above it is the detective's room, with a wall calendar and a telephone. The right side panel shows the silhouette of a man in a hat and coat, seen from behind.
