The Century Train book nook recreates a steam train crossing a stone bridge, built as a pair of bookends. On one side, the black locomotive with red wheels pulls onto the bridge. On the other, the red first-class car follows, with your books in between.

This difficult build is made for people who already enjoy assembly kits. It makes a good gift for anyone who loves trains.

Who is the Century Train made for?

Train and steam locomotive fans will enjoy this kit, and so will anyone looking for a pair of bookends.

It's a difficult build: its 313 pieces and the thin rods on the wheels take patience and a steady hand. If you're new to wooden puzzles, team up with a friend who's built one before. Plan on five to eight hours.

Once built, it holds your books on a shelf or a desk. Its black, red and gold tones go well with old leather bindings and dark wood furniture.

It makes a great gift for an adult who is into trains or a teen who likes model building.

Glue-free assembly: the pieces slot together. You don't need glue, though a little can help hold a few pieces in place.

Two bookends: the locomotive and its bridge form one side, the passenger car and its bridge the other, and your books go in between. The 17.4 in (44.1 cm) width is for the full set with books in place, as shown in the photos. You can also set the two blocks back to back, so the stone tunnel frames the locomotive.

No lighting: this model has no LEDs and needs no batteries. It's a decorative piece, ready to display as is.

Miniature accessories: the headlamp, the bells, the wheel rods and the cab plate come with the kit. The books are not included.

Century Train Book Nook - product details

Book nook details

In this kit, you build an early-1900s steam locomotive with a flared smokestack, a big round headlamp at the front and two red bells on its black boiler. Gold pipes run along the sides. White connecting rods link the red wheels, just like on a real engine. The other bookend holds a red first-class car marked with a gold number 1. Its wooden benches show through three windows, and a small railed platform sits at the back. Each one rolls across an arched gray stone bridge, and both stand on a base shaped like a thick book. Set back to back, the two blocks form a tunnel, with the locomotive coming out of it.
